Taro Rice (Yam Rice)

The perfect dish for busy days, the Taro Rice is a fluffy, aromatic, and flavorful Chinese-style yam rice that is wholesome enough to eat on its own, or as a staple to accompany your mains. Instructions

1. Sauté ingredients and taro cubes

  • Heat oil in pan at medium heat. Sauté sliced shallots and garlic until fragrant. Add chopped dried shrimps and diced shiitake mushrooms for 30 secs.

  • Add taro cubes and continue sautéing.


2. Cook taro cubes

  • Deglaze the pan with ¾ cup water

  • Add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce and sprinkle some pepper

  • Mix well and let it simmer until taro cubes are slightly softened


3. Cook rice

  • In a rice cooker or pot, add in washed rice and water

  • Add the sautéd taro cubes onto the top of the rice

  • Cook rice at high heat. Once it begins to boil, reduce heat to the minimum and allow rice to cook for 10-15 min. Allow rice to rest for another 5 min before giving it a mix.


Garnish and Serve!

Garnish with fried shallots, coriander and chilli.
